Telecom Ltd. has been familiar with Social media networks for some time now. We have become very comfortable with this new technology and have been using it as an advertising tool for quit some time now.
Though we have found some success with the traditional method of online advertising on social media web pages, we have noticed that we weren't able to reach a specific demographic as we intended.
That is why Telecom will be facilitating Twitter in a new way. Please visit Telecom Ltd. & Young Tweeters to learn more.
Nice paper Abdullah. I thought you made some great points about the ability of social media sites to increase awareness, but not necessarily increase sales. This ties into the challenge many businesses are grappling with when it comes to determining their ROI from social media networks. Many businesses have trouble justifying their investment when they can not see concrete results.
ReplyDeleteI especially liked your statement "Young people are more inclined to react based on what their peers say or do rather that what a printed ad or commercial tells them to." This is a great point, as it embraces the value of social media for businesses. Consumers are more likely to act based on their friends suggestions, as they value their statements more than what the company's PR release says. Thus, establishing a presence on social media sites is of value to businesses due to the value consumers place on other consumer's opinions.
Interesting strategy, Abdullah. While people are more likely to listen to "people like them," they are also turned off by company employees "pretending" to be customers like them. Some business are so regulated that employees are not allowed to promote their own company without disclosing they are employees of the company. One reason young people are turned off by traditional advertising may well be self-serving methods companies use.
ReplyDeleteI think your paper certainly emphasized how social media can be very beneficial for businesses of all sizes. With Telecom ltd. launching a new advertising campaign using platforms like twitter, this will hopefully increase brand awareness and result in an increase in consumers thus driving up sales. Much like your company, Reebok, too, is now hiring individuals in order to chat or tweet using our company's social media platforms. These individuals are often fresh out of college or only have a few years under their belt. With that said, these employees fit right in with the median age of 23.4 years and the most frequent social network users. Having this group of employees is beneficial because, just as you had pointed out, "young people are more inclined to react based on what their peers say or do rather than what a printed ad or commercial tells them to do".
